My new job
Finally I’m back to work force after a 3 month holiday. Glad that I’m on the path that I planned since my school day. I wanted to get exposure and opportunity by working in startups that deal with interesting ideas as a start then go into corporate world. As planned or unplanned, I worked in small companies for first 2 jobs and I told myself that I’m old enough to settle down with MNC or government job. After months of hunting and interviews, I got a verbal confirmation, after 1 month, I get the letter of offer, after another 2 weeks, I’m on my new desk. The whole process took rather long, I am offered a contract job instead of permanent job for some reason, but I’m ok with that for a start.
This is a government job.
Some obvious difference between current(C) and previous(P) jobs :
P: small office, little staff, open space with small desks
C: big building, many staff, big space with big cubicles
P: try to cut cost whenever is possible
C: have to answer why cannot finish the requested budget
P: help to buy toilet paper
C: got vending machine in the pantry, can call support to install software for me
P: have to listen to clients
C: I’m the vendor with millions of dollars now
P: everything is urgent, time is always not enough
C: everything is steady, may be that’s why it is slow
P: work as a team, fight as a team
C: not much spirit, lots of complaints
Should have more to add, but these are some things off my head. A sample cubicle (3 sided) next to mine, got new staff moving in soon :
